Hi! I am Joe, currently the GB Friendship Runner for the Vienna City Marathon. What does that mean?! Essentially I am the contact in the UK for people running in the marathon in Vienna each year. I write a welcome email and am here to answer questions about running this marathon abroad. I will run in the marathon and also be around the day before to meet anyone running and to answer any final questions! The page about the Vienna City Marathon explains a little bit about the event.

This year I aim to run the marathon in under 3 hours 30 minutes (my best so far being 3:47). I am using myself as a bit of a human guinea pig- testing ways of achieving goals, assessing my own training and motivation. Hopefully my methods will help me and others to achieve goals in physical activity, in the workplace and also personal goals.

A big thank you to Jen and the team at LAX gym Aldgate London for all the help with training and motivation!

A bit about the theory can be found on the page Realising dreams – the theory and more about this specific dream on the My marathon challenge page.

Use the menu on the left to navigate. I hope you enjoy the read!

When I am not running, I am a designer with a fascination in how people think and apply this to creating things. More can be found in my blog josephshaffery.com
